Daily Recap — SOA W3D5

To do list:

- gym

- layout schedule for weekend of hibernating to work on thesis

- job applications

- clean bathroom

- put away laundry (from 4 days ago….)

- clean up desk

Workout:

RWRunStreak Day 33 (Day 5) — 1.10 miles @ 13 minutes

Stationary bike — 7.50 miles @ 31 minutes

Stair climber — 0.40 miles @ 8 minutes

Food:

Breakfast — oatmeal

Lunch — peanut butter and banana sandwich with milk

Dinner — ground turkey meatballs, corn, sliced yam with spices

Snacks — cucumber, tomatoes, carrots, grapes, Publix yogurt, potato chips

Reaction:

Well running didn’t exactly clear my head, but I pushed at the treadmill today and got positive results so at least that is something. Also helped that I finally remembered to put some awesome music on there because I’ve been listening to the same stuff for entirely way too long (Panic at the Disco, Blink182, and Fall Out Boy? Yes please! Up beat and fast tunes).

As I was on the stationary bike a guy went up to the treadmill and started cranking out 8 minute miles. He did a 5K in 25 minutes! I was impressed, and I made sure to tell him so after he finished — he was all smiles because it was a PB for him, even if it wasn’t an official race. I told him that one day I dream of completing a 5K on our treadmills within the allotted time on cardio (30 minutes). And you know what, I know if I put my mind to it one day I will. He told me to keep up the great work because he’d been noticing how I’m starting to pull a 12 minute/mile pace more frequently than my 13 minute/mile paces earlier this month.

One small tidbit that I am impressed/a bit down on — my moment of weakness came today in the form of a bowl of potato chips. I’m stressed, there are things going on that I can’t publicly share, and I dipped for potato chips. But I am impressed because I measured out the serving and made sure to stick with it! Also for the fact that I didn’t really focus on how “crappy I ate” by eating one serving of potato chips. Win? I think so!

Daily Recap — SOA W2D4

Another one of those mix days of unknown planning. The days I like.

A.M. Workout:

RWRunStreak Day 25 — 1.02 miles @ 13:01 minutes

Stationary Bike level 10 then level 15 — 5.70 miles @ 30 minutes

Stair climber, 45 steps per minute — 0.67 miles @ 15 minutes

Food — Based off decent calories and good decisions today, something I haven’t done in a number of weeks. Had a smoothie at Starbucks, had half of a half of a Publix Cuban sandwich (so 3 inches instead of 6??), and chicken with white rice from the Chinese restaurant for dinner. That with vegetables and fruits for snack. Considering it’s been non-stop errands since the gym, well with social time, food choices were as good as could be.

Was at the gym at 6 this morning and left around 8. Felt good for a morning workout. Then proceeded to spend 5 hours at a Starbucks with a friend. Really nice person, has standard 5K racing experience and is a personal trainer. He had some really helpful suggestions, lots that made sense, and some that were later confirmed by the doctor. So all in all, it’s been a win.

Thank you to everyone that made diet suggestions and were supportive of my “I hate my scale” comments from yesterday. It’s great to know that some people are in a similar boat.

So I’ll be taking with me some of what my friend suggested and some of what the doc suggested (which match for almost everything) and run with that for the next month. Hopefully the scale will show some improvement.

Daily Recap — SOA W2D2

When things don’t go according to plan…you improvise! And that’s what I did today after a late night editing my thesis resulted in a very late wake-up.

Ended up shifting my day back by 4 hours with everything. Also putting aside thesis for a few days as I’m over thinking edits and it is showing in my reviews. It’s both good and bad because I used to have something to sidetrack me with when I was still working on my other Master’s degree. Now I get to over indulge in more Netflix — yay?

P.M. Workout:

RWRunStreak Day 23 — 1.05 miles @ 14:00 minutes

Stationary Bike Level 10 hills course — 7.01 miles @ 30 minutes

Rowing interval level 5 — 0.45 miles @ 4 minutes

Stair Climber, 60 steps per minute — 0.65 miles @ 15 minutes

Also, food got tweaked and I’m changing my dinner of ground turkey meat and vegetables for an omelet as I need post-workout protein and I’m super craving spinach and mushrooms right now…

Daily Recap — SOA W2D1

“Every voice inside my head is telling me to run like mad.”

This is what pushed me through today. Kudos for those that know the song and where it came from (and is currently what is streaming on my Netflix…)

Here’s the recap:

Today’s time schedule:

5-7 A.M. — laundry & 30 Day Shred

7-11 A.M. — thesis writing & editing

11-12 P.M. — lunch, Netflix, and folding laundry

12-1 P.M. — phone interview (as expected it was a courtesy interview and they declined to pursue my application any further. No biggie, it was a job I applied for over 6 months ago…)

1-4 P.M. — GYM!

4-5 P.M. — errands

5-7 P.M. — food prep, dinner, clean up

7-9 P.M. — thesis writing

9-11 P.M.* — read book, Netflix

*I usually fall asleep reading my book, so the actual “end time” varies depending on the night.

Meals:

Breakfast — eggs and cereal

Snack 1 — cucumber, cherry tomato, carrots

Lunch — yam with onions

Snack 2 — sunflower seeds

Post-Workout — Milk w/protein powder, banana

Dinner — chicken, vegetable medley, couscous

Snack 3 — fruits (grapes, watermelon, raspberries, apple)

A.M. Workout:

30 Day Shred

P.M. Workout:

Stationary Bike level 3 rolling hills — 7.01 miles @ 30 minutes

RWRunStreak Day 22 — 1.05 miles @ 14 minutes

Rowing Machine — 0.65 miles @ 6 minutes

Stair Climber — 0.50 miles @ 11 minutes

I tried pushing myself but I had a headache and seriously felt ill on the stair climber so decided to call it a day. The heat really got to me today. I’ve noticed in recent days that if I hit certain cardio stuff in a different order I feel even more heated than if I stick to my original order. But on the same note I also tend to go faster and push myself with my new order of cardio workout…

Daily recap — SOA W1D4

Hmpf. Today did not go according to schedule. Proof in point that even the person hosting SOA isn’t perfect all the time.

My body has been sluggish the past few days. Too much computer work and not enough sleep time. Me no likey and body showed it. I slept in, gym time was pushed to the afternoon, fruits cutting and prep are moved to post-dinner. Still managed to get everything done on the list. Huzzah?

Workout:

RWRunStreak Day 18 — 1.01 miles @ 14:00 minutes

Stationary bike — 6.95 miles @ 30 minutes

Elliptical Machine — 0.50 miles @ 5 minutes

Stair Climber — 1.35 miles @ 30 minutes

I just really wasn’t into my workout today at all. My mind was fluttering between personal stuff and just my body too tired to put enough effort into anything. I’m not upset over the numbers at all. Some days are good and some days are not so good. Today was one of those days.

Daily Recap — SOA W1D3

Me time was a huge success! Finally got around to seeing a Netflix movie I’ve had out for a few days — Glory Road. I <3 sports history movies. Although I have a feeling certain UK fans might not have liked how this movie ended….Finished Caught by Harlen Coban (huge fan of his work!)…and had a really relaxing morning.

I’ve been craving carbs allllll day, so I gave into temptation a bit with a bagel for breakfast. I haven’t had a bagel for breakfast in over a year, and now I know why because I felt hungry just a few hours later. I think yesterday I didn’t consume enough carbs for my workout so my body was craving them today. Definitely a struggle still for fueling my body, I got the vitamins, protein, sodium, calcium, and calories in check but certainly not the carbs.

I finished 3 job applications today that needed to get done before the end of the week. Not getting my hopes up on any of ‘em, although one I might have a chance since I’m a gender minority and all. Because who knew that being female is considered a minority?

P.M. Workout:

RWRunStreak Day 17 — 1.01 miles @ 13:01 minutes

Stationary Bike — 6.83 miles @ 30 minutes

Treadmill post-biking — 0.50 miles @ 6:50 minutes

Rowing Machine — 0.56 miles @ 5 minutes

Stair Climber — 0.50 miles @ 11 minutes

Certainly not my all time high or best workouts, but some days a workout is just a workout. Today was one of those days.

All in all, pretty accomplishing day for the most part. I needed a day like today to realize just how much I can get done when I’m left to my own devices. Makes me miss my freedom a whole lot. But nothing I can do except keep on plucking away at job applications.

Daily recap — SOA W1D1

I’m going to try to post my time schedule this week daily in the morning, but today for some reason my schedule didn’t post like it should have while in the queue. So instead ya’ll get what I was supposed to be doing PLUS my daily workout all in one lovely post.

Schedule:

6 - 7 A.M. - Waking up, breakfast, dishes, internet surfing

7 - 10 A.M. - Job applications

10 - 12 P.M. - Work on thesis

12 - 1 - snack, get stuff together for the gym, get to gym

1 - 4 P.M. - gym workout, post-workout, errands

4 - 5:45 P.M. - job applications and thesis

5:45 - 7 P.M. - food prep, dinner, clean up

7 - 8 P.M. - work on SOA things

8 - 10 P.M. - Netflix/reading/relaxing

Workout details:

RWRunStreak Day 15 — 1.56 miles @ 23 minutes

Stationary Bike rolling hills level 5 — 6.86 miles @ 30 minutes

Rowing Machine intervals level 3 — 0.48 miles @ 4 minutes

Treadmill — 0.50 miles @ 6 minutes

Stair Climber — 1.01 miles @ 23 minutes

Funny thing to note, the rowing machine computer beeps for each interval change and there was a guy working out nearby that did not like the beeping every 30 seconds with the interval change and started giving me weird looks and cursing at me before asking me to leave. I didn’t do anything and the guy eventually left. It was pretty amusing because of everyone staring at him like he didn’t understand that it was the machine and I couldn’t control it.

Day 5 of Two-A-Days COMPLETE! Saturday and Sunday I bestow upon my body as easy days to continue the RWRunStreak.
A.M. Workout:
30 Day Shred video — 30 minutes
P.M. Workout:
RWRunStreak Day 12 — 1.01 mile @ 13:30 minutes
Stationary Bike — Level 8 of rolling hills course 6.05 miles @ 30 minutes
Rowing Machine — Level 3 of rowing intervals; 0.51 miles @ 5 minutes (I had to look up meters to miles conversion for Runkeeper and dailymile….)
Treadmill (stretching out post-bike) — 0.50 miles @ 6 minutes
Stair Climber — 0.90 miles @ 20 minutes
When I was on the stair climber I caught a glimpse of myself in the window and almost didn’t recognize me. My shirt was drenched in sweat and clinging to my body. My stomach for once wasn’t protruding past my chest. I don’t know what it was, but it just caught my eye and made me realize that no matter how hard I push, and how hard I try, there will be physical changes that the scale can never measure.
Also, yesterday and today I had the same weird dejavu moment where I went into the gym’s shower and was like “wasn’t I just here this morning?”, when, in fact, the past 2 mornings I haven’t been able to get to the gym because of the weather and have done a workout at home instead.

And in today’s news…the weather forecasted rain all day, and so it happened. (picture taken after doing grocery shopping around 10, the only time the rain let up)
Two-A-Days Day 4
A.M. Workout:
30 Day Shred Video — 30 minutes; tons of sweat; one puppy who insisted on laying on my stomach while doing crunches (camera wasn’t handy); one cat who wanted to sniff my sweat shirt that I peeled off (she wasn’t happy about the stink)
P.M. Workout:
Treadmill Warm-Up — 1.12 mile @ 16:45 minutes
Stationary Bike Level 3 Hills Course — 7.45 miles @ 30:12 minutes
RWRunStreak Day 11 — 1.01 miles @13:30 minutes
Stair Climber — 0.50 miles @11:17 minutes
Dripping in sweat with gun show Thursday. Quite literally as the people at the gym were looking at me when I was on the stair climber (apparently my back was soaked).
I’ve noticed that I sweat a different type of sweat when I’m at the gym. It’s weird, but the sweat on my arms is more like how you see condensation build up on a bottle of water. When I’m outside it kind of just pours down like the rest of my body. Odd. I think what’s even more odd is that I noticed it.

My day in pictures. Thought it was a lot easier to remember this way.
First picture is post-workout. The dripping sweat doesn’t do justice in this picture, but I had to take it quick because no cameras allowed in the locker room.
Here are the workout numbers (includes RWRunStreak Day 6!):
Treadmill — Hilly course, 1.23 miles in 20:00 mins(4 minutes warm up/cool down)
Stationary Bike — Hilly course, 6.27 miles in 30:00 minutes
Rowing Machine — [not pictured] 0.50 miles in 10:00 minutes
Stair Climber — 0.50 miles in 10:00 minutes (picture has inaccurate time for some reason)
Second me picture is in between the gym and heading out for a Bat-Mitzvah at my Temple.
Next picture features my delicious breakfast — egg beaters, spinach leaves, mushrooms, onions, and red bell peppers. Super recovery mode and filling breakfast!
Me going from dripping in sweat, to in between, to getting all pretty-fied for the Bat-Mitzvah.
July Runner’s World (as I know some of my followers gauge when they need to check their mail based on when tumblrs post when they get the magazine).

Oh, forgot to mention I was there when the gym opened at 7 this morning. Literally rolled out of bed at 6:30 and was ready to go to the gym. That seriously never happens, especially not on a weekend, and not on a morning that the night before I stayed up late online watching Netflix.
Today has been full of win. And my arms are sore from the rowing machine, which I will take as a good sign. I’m super excited to go at it later this week. Tomorrow might be a swim day depending on the weather. Or I might just take the bike out before running. Maybe it’ll rain and I can actually run with the dog since it’ll be cooler out. Who knows.
But the streak is alive and well. And so are my leg muscles.
Make this first weekend in June a winning weekend!
